Casa Grande, Arizona.
First, Dr. Asonye extolled the indispensable role that the parents have played in the success of the graduates, acknowledging the countless mornings of taking them to and from school, as well as encouraging them to persevere through school.
In the same breath, Dr Asonye recognized the teachers who have helped shape the students’ journeys, noting that educators do more than teach, as they help raise future leaders, engineers, innovators, and even presidents.
To the parents, he said, “Parents, you deserve more than applause. You brought us to this moment, and we celebrate your dedication.”
To the teachers, he said, “Your work is invaluable. The graduates owe you eternal respect for the role you played in their success story.”
While delivering his speech, Dr Asonye laid emphasis on the concept of self-identification and self-worth. He challenged the graduates to reflect deeply on how they see themselves, reminding them that the way they define themselves will influence the way the world responds to them. By asking, “What do you identify yourself as?” and “Do you think highly of yourself, or do you think low of yourself?” he encouraged them to recognize that confidence, purpose, and self-belief are not handed out on a platter but are to be harnessed over time.
He charged the graduates to define themselves clearly to the world, saying: “You are the best introducer of yourself. Any day you stop announcing who you are, the world will assign a label for you.”
Speaking about the power of dreams, he encouraged students to work consistently toward their goals, emphasizing that dreams only become reality when they are matched with effort, discipline, and determination. Reflecting on his journey as a young man from the African continent, he shared how his innovations have stood out and now span nations and continents, all because he dared to dream and took deliberate steps to bring those dreams to life. Today, he travels across the world advocating for communities to build, protect, and preserve their cultural values, demonstrating how purpose-driven dreams can create lasting global impact.
As he closed his speech, he charged the graduates to take time to develop a thorough understanding of their lineage, culture, and values, as it is imperative for building confidence and facing future challenges. He closed with these words, “As you rise to conquer the world, do not forget who you are. Know your lineage, your culture, and your values. Introduce yourself to the world with confidence, and let your success reflect who you truly are.”
