INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON DISABILITY MATTERS

Theme: Disability Rights: In the Era of Generative AI

The workshop is set against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving technological landscape, where advancements in artificial intelligence are reshaping how societies function. Indigenous Hands and Voices seeks to create a platform that bridges traditional knowledge and modern innovation, focusing on the rights and empowerment of people with disabilities in Africa, specifically Nigeria.

The theme, “Disability Rights: in Africa in the Era of Generative AI,” underscores the need to align technological progress with human rights and inclusivity. As AI systems become more prevalent in everyday life, they present opportunities and challenges for accessibility and equality.

Participants, primarily government officials, will discuss leveraging AI to enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities while also addressing potential biases and ethical considerations inherent in AI technologies. The workshop will explore how generative AI can be harnessed to create more inclusive environments, from healthcare to education and public services.

Seasoned speakers, including renowned disability advocates, technology experts, and policy analysts, will share their insights and experiences. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and expert panels, attendees will gain insights into the latest AI tools and how they can be utilized to support disability rights. The workshop aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of the intersection between technology and human rights, encouraging policies that ensure equitable access to AI advancements for all members of society.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, Indigenous Hands and Voices and Save the Deaf and Endangered Languages Initiative hope to inspire actionable strategies to promote inclusivity and empower people with disabilities, ensuring that the technological revolution benefits everyone, leaving no one behind.
