Tiv Language Project
As part of our commitment to preserving and revitalizing indigenous languages, IHAV is proud to introduce the Tiv Language Project under the Indigenous Spoken Language Documentation Project (ISLDP2). This initiative is dedicated to documenting, promoting, and increasing literacy in the Tiv language, ensuring its continued use and growth among speakers and learners.
We’re excited to share that we’ll be officially launching the Tiv Language Documentation Project in 2026. This project will focus on:
- Linguistic Research & Documentation – Conducting in-depth research on Tiv grammar, vocabulary, and oral traditions to create comprehensive linguistic resources.
- Tiv Literacy & Educational Programs – Developing learning materials, digital tools, and literacy programs to support both native speakers and new learners.
- Cultural Preservation – Recording Tiv folklore, proverbs, songs, and historical narratives to ensure the rich cultural heritage of the Tiv people is passed on to future generations.
- Technology & Digital Access – Leveraging digital platforms to make Tiv language learning more accessible through mobile apps, interactive resources, and online content.
By documenting and promoting the Tiv language, we aim to empower Tiv-speaking communities, preserve their linguistic identity, and create lasting resources that future generations can rely on. Stay tuned as we prepare for the 2026 launch and work towards a future where the Tiv language continues to thrive!
